Our plan is to commercialized state-of-the-art functionally modified glycopolymers and glycoconjugates fortheir use as drug/gene delivery vehicles and cell therapies. We have developed unique synthesis approachesthat have allowed the design of new polymeric architectures in high precision with improved binding affinity.Well-defined glycopolymers with varying molecular weights, compositions and architectures have beensynthesized and evaluated their potential as gene/drug delivery vectors and cell scaffolds, allowing faciletailoring with pendant biocompatible moieties with complex structure-activity relationships (acid degradability,redox response, temperature-response). The use of natural polysaccharides for gene delivery has reduced theneed for an excess cationic charge, hence decreasing the system's toxicity, as carbohydrates condensed theoligonucleotides via hydrogen bonding. These carbohydrate units also interact with specific cell receptors(glycans) and serve as targeting agents without a need for further modifications.
