Several strategies are currently being developed to improve the therapeutic efficacy of current drug moleculesor new drugs are being developed with better performance due to many factors such as drug resistance,cytotoxicity of the drug molecules in therapeutic doses, degradation before reaching the target, difficulty instorage for long term and solubility issues. Therefore, there is a need to develop nano-drug delivery systems toaddress to the above issues. In our laboratory we have develop safe and effective polymer and nanogels systemsfor the delivery of both small drug molecules and macromolecules (such as protein, siRNA and DNA). Thesepolymer based nano-systems have been engineered for excellent protection of the drug molecules, highencapsulation and with targeting abilities. In collaboration with TC Scientific Inc., the goal of this project is todevelop an effective nano-drug delivery system for the therapeutic delivery of both hydrophilic andhydrophobic drug molecules. The temperature responsive nature of this nano-system will allow the facileencapsulation and controlled release of the drug in active form.
