The theme of Dr. Li¿s research is ¿simplicity¿. He has written a book about it: An introduction to Kolmogorov complexity and its applications. This has lead him to develop a theory of information distance. Simplicity has also led to a method for analyzing algorithms, allowing Dr. Li to successfully analyze many algorithms including average-case complexity of Shellsort.The research plan includes a long term goal of theoretical research on a modern theory of information. Dr. Li also plans to develop algorithms and software systems for bioinformatics and natural language processing.
