Cells must adapt to changing environmental conditions in order to survive. Interestingly, an emerging class of biological molecules (noncoding RNA) have recently been shown to be essential to many of these responsive pathways. Dr. Audas¿ laboratory will study the role of noncoding RNA in the stress-induced conversion of proteins to a new type of natural protein aggregate. He intends to identify regulators, protein targets, and cellular consequences associated with this pathway, enhancing our understanding of cellular adaptability. Research outcomes will also impact the study of aggregate-based neurological diseases, generating new avenues to combat conditions affecting Canada¿s aging population.
