Too much or too little water in the soil has great impacts on agricultural production. Detection of soil moisture amounts over Canadian agricultural regions would have important application for the targeting of assistance programs or assist land users in decision making. In the proposed research program, Dr Berg and his research group will evaluate and improve the observation and modelling of soil moisture from satellites and within hydrological models. These improved estimates will be useful for the agricultural decision makers, weather modellers and for flood forecasting programs.
