项目摘要
Canada¿s ecosystems are changing rapidly and we critically need the predictive power to identify the mechanisms enabling organisms to adapt. Integrative Ecology can provide tangible solutions by combining multiple tools (e.g., physiology, genomics, behaviour) to predict how and why organisms respond to environmental change. My Tier 2 CRC in Integrative Ecology has identified critical underlying mechanisms mediating performance/fitness in key species in provincially- and nationally-important ecosystems under rapid change (e.g., Laurentian Great Lakes, Canadian Arctic). My second term will determine which individuals/species have the required mechanistic capacity to survive and prosper in response to further increases in environmental change.
