Much of Canada¿s wealth is derived from its mineral resources but new ore deposits are becoming harder to find. Geochemistry is at the forefront of research to develop new exploration tools, such as fingerprinting resistant minerals preserved in bedrock and surficial sediments, to vector towards mineralisation hidden at depth. This Chair program will use cutting edge techniques to analyse trace element chemistry of minerals, common in many ore deposits such as Fe-oxides and apatite, to develop innovative geochemical tools that will help us better understand how ore deposits form and to explore for hidden ore deposits.
