The Chair aims to generate omics and use systems biology to elucidate alkaloid biosynthesis in order to reproduce alkaloid pathway in microalgea to enhance their production of pharmaceutical alkaloids. Using omic approaches, the transriptome and metabolome of Amaryllidaceae plants will be generated and used to identified candidate genes encoding enzymes involved in AA biosynthetic pathway. Next, candidate genes witll be functionnaly characterized in vitro and in vivo and inserted into microalgea for the reconstruction of the Amaryllidaceae alkaloid pathway. Knowledge obtained will provide genetic tools for the production of valuable alkaloid in microalgea or for the engineering of plant cultivars better able to produce these valuable alkaloids.
