For the first time in history older people outnumber the younger. This has created unique health challenges, the scariest being Dementia, a debilitating disorder that cause severe memory loss with no cure. This is why Dr. Heisz¿s research on interventions to prevent dementia is so vital. She will examine how one session of exercise impacts the brain to improve memory, and then determine how those temporary changes become permanent with regular exercise training and whether they can be enhanced with brain training games that target memory. This research will inform evidence-based guidelines for exercise interventions to keep older Canadians healthier longer.
