The research program aims at developing conceptual frameworks, algorithms, technologies and guides to address the daunting challenges that arise in the reliable and efficient operation of a massively distributed and interactive power grid with large scale integration of distributed energy resources to propel a carbon-free economy. Concisely, the chair envisions new centralised and distributed stability controls that allow a power system conditions to be monitored and analysed, true operational limits of it identified, and control decisions made and executed in seconds or less, while preserving system integrity through adaptive defence plans, and managing uncertainties through automated dispatch of flexible resources and peer-to-peer energy sharing in smart communities.
