We will establish the transcriptional networks of the human fungal pathogen Candida albicans, and compare them with those in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We will identify those circuits that are unique to each organism, those circuits that are common to both organisms, and finally those circuits that have rewired between the organisms and thus control distinct processes in the two fungi. While investigations of the transcriptional circuitry in the model yeast S. cerevisiae have provided fundamental insights into cell function, our work will establish which characteristics are fundamental, and which are idiosyncratic to the model under investigation.
