Cavitation is present in many physical phenomena and applications: Medical ultrasound imaging; disease targeted drug delivery; blood-brain-barrier opening; high intensity focused ultrasound; and sonothrombolysis. The application of ultrasound-microbubbles as a novel targeted drug delivery strategy has shown promising potential through enhanced permeability and endocytosis. In our research program, we study the phenomenon of cavitation induced through ultrasonically-stimulated bubbles and their interaction with biological membranes such as cell membranes through theoretical and experimental approaches.
