Sterilization and infection control practices are necessary to all dental and healthcare providers in order to maintain health and safety standards. It is particularly important to ensure that endotoxins are killed, to prevent post-surgical immune responses. The current sterilization techniques are inefficient as they involve numerous steps. In addition, they are costly and pose health risks to the staff sterilizing the equipment, and small to medium sized practices have difficulty providing adequate sterilized equipment on a daily basis. DeVis Technologies Inc developed a system to sterilize dental tools using ozone in combination with ultrasound technology. Although ozonated water has been shown to be effective in removing biological loads of waste-water treatment, the required concentration of the ozone is usually very high. Here, ultrasound technology will be combined with ozonated water so that sterilization can be achieved at relatively low ozone concentrations.
