Visualizing and quantifying abundance of protein samples via western blotting is a fundamental and standard technique in modern biochemistry and molecular biology. The use of chemiluminescence or fluorescence instead of colorimetric detection of samples is now a standard protocol. While chemiluminescent imaging and quantification can be accomplished using film, a developer, and scanning software the use of a gel documentation system that obviates the need for the consumables and generation of chemical waste is also now standard. The RTI application is to replace an obsolete gel documentation system with a Bio-Rad ChemiDoc MP system capable of chemiluminescent and fluorescent detection. The equipment will be used regularly in support of research and HQP training in the labs of the co-applicants (Todd, Wei, Wang, Ham) as well as other users from multiple academic units in the Collaborative Science Research Building at the University of Saskatchewan.
