A modern plant molecular biology and biochemistry laboratory requires specialized equipment for quantitative analysis of changes in gene expression, protein abundance, enzyme activity, metabolite accumulation, and a host of other biological activities within the plant. Of equal importance is the ability to grow plants under tightly defined environmental conditions so that the results of analytical work, the results of hundreds to thousands of hours of work by researchers, most notably graduate students, are not rendered irrelevant because of changes in environmental conditions. The current application is to support the purchase of a reach-in plant growth chamber with provision for temperature and humidity control for the study of biochemical and molecular aspects of plant nitrogen metabolism.
