项目摘要

Prime minister Justin Trudeau declared in June, 2021 that only zero emission cars and light trucks will be sold in Canada after 2035. This statement is the latest in a long series of declarations over the past decade by different stakeholders demanding oil and gas to be replaced by alternative renewable energy sources. Currently, only a few technologies have been developed to this end, and of these, the rechargeable battery is arguably the most promising for widespread use within the proposed timeline. With a skyrocketing global demand for rechargeable batteries, it is critical that Canada builds up a domestic industry that can ensure supply security and a share of this rapidly expanding market. The strategic industrial alliance between Blue Solutions Canada, and the Schougaard laboratory is one effort towards meeting this demand. Specifically, Blue Solutions Canada, located in Boucherville (QC) is uniquely positioned to expand rapidly as they have developed Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP©) battery for decades now. With the LMP© technology Blue Solutions Canada has been the first to bring to the automotive and stationary market a battery based on metallic lithium. Since the electrolyte is also liquid free, this All-Solid-State-Battery offers superior safety in addition to simplicity of using lithium metal rather that the standard graphite anode. The target of this proposal is to develop a series of state-of-the art analytical techniques for used in the continued development of the All-Solid-State LMP© battery, specifically to improve the process of lithium stripping and plating, in order to increase performance and lower costs.
