This project aims to develop a high-resolution seismic risk map to enhance Quebec's situational awareness of its bridge network to facilitate seismic planning, management, and emergency responses. To achieve this, we will conduct stochastic event-based seismic hazard analysis, adapt and integrate a new generation of fragility models to assess the seismic vulnerability of typical bridge classes in Quebec, synthesize seismic loss functions for different bridge components, and inter-connect these analysis modules to perform probabilistic regional seismic risk simulations. Canada is at significant earthquake risk due to the elevated level of seismic activity, and the increases in urban exposure and vulnerability. This project will leverage regional seismic risk assessment to enhance the seismic resilience of the bridge network used by millions of eastern Canadians. The bridge risk map will identify emergency routes for first responders to better prepare, plan for, and react to future earthquakes. It can help decision-makers to assess high-risk areas and prioritize critical bridges for seismic retrofits.
