The objective of this research project is to revolutionize the design and delivery of protection plans specifically for handheld Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques. These innovative AI techniques will focus on the monetization of the customer base in this economic sector in order to reduce (or possibly eliminate) the cost of protection plans for the end-customers. With 350 million PEDs and $14 billion in warranty sales each year in North America alone, the opportunities for improvement in this sector are significant. Our ongoing partnership with Warranty Life will continue to transform the industry business model through joint academic research and commercial innovation throughout the next 5 years, establishing Canada as a leader in evidence-based, AI-driven technology for warranty and protection plan services. Most specifically, this project will positively impact Canada by allowing our industry partner to expand its market by tapping into 90% of the PDE customer segment that typically do not acquire extended protection plans.
