Our novel biosensor technology, the Biomarker Immobilized Organic Electrolyte Gated Field Effect Transistor (BIOEGFET), is inspired by the urgent need for a point-of-care, first contact screening tool for analyzing body homeostasis as a replacement of, or in conjunction with, the traditional ELISA test which only provides a single point and often insufficiently accurate diagnostic outcomes. Shaped by the focus on improving patient outcomes, reducing sample to result timeline, and optimizing medical expenditure on lab tests, our technology is capable of multiplexed and repeat testing of hormones, metabolites, and other bioanalytes in non-invasive bio-fluids such as saliva. Such multiplexed biosensors expand the single data point collected by a conventional laboratory test into a holistic and informative picture of multiple data points that well trained operators can use to identify potential false positives. BIOEGFET systems are highly suited for rapid, multi-analyte sensing in saliva at de-centralized lab settings, intermediate test settings such as an ambulance, a physician's clinic or pharmacies, as well as in resource-limited settings such as remote communities in Canada.
