Medical x-ray imaging is currently experiencing a breakthrough thanks to the very recent approval of the first computed tomography (CT) scanner employing photon-counting detectors by the Food and Drug Agency (FDA). It is believed that photon counting CT scanners will drastically improve disease diagnosis by offering unprecedentedly high resolution and high contrast enabling the visualization of small features and early disease detection. Thanks to the past partnership between, Redlen Technologies and the X-ray Cancer Imaging and Therapy Experimental (XCITE) lab at the University of Victoria are extremely well positioned to make significant contributions to the novel field of CT imaging with photon-counting detectors. Redlen Technologies is a manufacturer of photon-counting detectors and is looking for academic partners with CT imaging software expertise who can fully unleash the potential of their photon-counting detectors for unprecedented high-resolution high-contrast CT imaging for the diagnosis of diseases, including cancer, stroke and COVID-19. The XCITE lab has extensive experience with CT imaging which they will marry with their machine learning for medical imaging expertise and will help solve the photo-counting CT imaging challenge posed by Redlen Technologies. In this partnership between Redlen Technologies and the XCITE lab, the team will join in the race to offer the highest quality healthcare and put Canada on the world map of experts in photon-counting CT scanner hardware and software.
