The Relationship between the Principles of Knowledge and the Theory of Hypothesis in Émilie Du Châtelet

The aim of the project is to delineate the relationship between Du Châtelet's theory of hypothesis and her understanding of the principles of knowledge as well as to thereby integrate the foundations of her theory of science into the history of science. By so doing, the given and accepted conception of the historical development of the theory of science following on from the early modern period can be corrected and Émilie Du Châtelet's important contribution to its history, as a woman, can finally be recognised.
