A Fundamenta Study on Jesuit Books

中国的耶稣会士与中国学者合作，用中文撰写和翻译了许多不同领域的著作。这些耶稣会书籍对中日两国的知识分子都产生了很大的影响，特别是在科学领域。本研究的主要目的是对保存在日本图书馆的这些耶稣会书籍进行调查和编目。这项调查已经扩展到日本各地的100家图书馆。共收录37个图书馆866册图书，其中原版202册，再版387册，手写266册。科学类图书数量居首位，宗教类图书紧随其后。对于属于宗教范畴的书籍，再版的数量超过了原版和手稿。这是由于幕府政策，禁止进口除科学著作以外的所有外国书籍，并严格禁止克里斯蒂安书籍，因此它们19世纪的重印是在明治维新之后引入的。

Jesuits in China wrote and translated many works of various fields in Chinese with the collaboration of Chinese scholars. These Jesuit books made substantial influence on Chinese as well as Japanese intellectual people especially in the field of sciences.The main object of this research project is to survey these Jesuit books preserved in Japanese libraries and to make their catalogue. The survey has extended to one hundred libraries all over Japan. It totals 866 books in 37 libraries, made up as follows: 202 books of original edition, 387 books of reprint edition and 266 hand-written copies. Scientific books take the first place in total number, with religious ones next to it. As for books which belong to the catery of religion, reprints overwhelm original edition and manuscripts in number. This is due to the sakoku policy whereby all foreign books except for scientific works were forbidden to import and a strict ban was excecuted on Chrisitian books, thus their 19th-century reprints being introduced after the Meiji Restoration.
