Affinal Relations in Rural Korea, 17th through 19th Centuries.

在韩国，关于亲缘关系的讨论很多，但对亲缘关系的关注相对较少。本研究是以17世纪末至19世纪中期的户籍为基础，对宗族关系进行分析的初步尝试。朝鲜末期的朝鲜社会深受儒家思想的影响，宗族制度得以细化。在当地社会中长期存在的亲属团体将自己组织成了名为Munjung的无国籍后裔团体。然而，人口的地域流动性很高是这一时期的特点之一。这项研究的重点之一是找出移民和亲缘关系之间是否存在相关性。分析了四个时期的户籍，每个时期包括五到七个村庄的大约350户家庭，结果如下：1.村内亲缘关系在17世纪很频繁，但在18世纪以后，这种频率急剧下降，表明今天的村庄外婚规范可能是在这一时期发展起来的。2.亲缘关系似乎在促进移民方面没有发挥重要作用。然而，大部分确实存在的村内亲缘关系都与有关村庄的新移民有关。

Much has been discussed on agnatic relationship in Korea, but relatively little attention has been paid to affinal relationship. The present research has been a preliminary attempt at analysing affinal relationship based on household registers of late seventeenth through midnineteenth centuries.Korean society during late-Choson period was under strong influence of Confucianism, and the clan system became elaborated. Kin groups long established in local societies organized themselves into agnatic descent groups called Munjung. However, a very high geographic mobility of the population was one of the characteristics of the period. One of the foci of the research was to find if there is any correlationship between immigration and affinal relations. Household registers from four periods, each including some 350 households in five to seven villages have been analyzed, with the following results.1.Intra-village affinal relations were frequent in the seventeenth century, but the frequency dropped sharply after the eighteenth century, indicating that the present-day norm of village exogamy may have developed during this period.2.Affinal ties do not appear to have playd a major role in promoting immigration. However, most of the intra-village affinal ties that did exist were associated wtih new immigrants to the village concerned.
