Extracting new variables and empirical study in the comparative research of industrial agglomeration.

本研究的目的是探讨日本眼镜产业和眼镜框产业集聚在劳动密集型产业背景下保持竞争优势的机制和制度。本研究使用的数据如下。一种是访谈收集的文本数据，由150万字组成。另一种是从40年来的行业杂志中提取的文本数据，由180万字组成。从分析结果可以看出，日本镜框产业集聚经营绩效低下的根本原因不是低成本的进口商品，而是阻碍眼镜行业企业适应环境变化的制度环境。

The purpose of this study is to investigate mechanisms and institutions of Japanese glasses industry and glasses-frame industrial agglomeration that has maintained competitive advantage, despite labor-intensive industry. The data used in this research was as follows. One was the text data that was collected by interview, and consists of 1,500,000 characters. Another was the text data that was extracted from trade magazines of 40 years, and consists of 1,800,000 characters. From the result of this analysis, we concluded that the prime cause of low business performance of Japanese glasses-frame industrial agglomeration was not low-cost imported goods, but institutional environment which prevented companies of glasses industry from adapting to environmental change.
