his experimental PhD research project involves the novel fission studies of proton-rich unstable nuclei at relativistic energies in inverse kinematics at the SAMURAI setup at RIBF. Until a decade of so ago, due to the limitations of available experimental techniques and the need to use stable targets to produce nuclei of interest, the fission studies were mostly limited to nuclides close to beta-stability line. The situation changed dramatically with the recent advent of fast (or post-accelerated) radioactive beams, which allow to extend the fission studies to the very exotic nuclei, not previously accessible for fission experiments. This allows to investigate, for example, the scarcely-explored isospin (or, neutron-to-proton, N/Z, ratio) dependence of fission. The new fission data obtained in this project for isotopes with very exotic N/Z-values, will be used for a crucial benchmarking and of the applicability of existing theoretical fission models, and to extend their predictability to new, yet unexplored, regions of fissionning nuclei. Furthermore, the use of inverse kinematics allows to obtain an unprecedented precision in determination of both Z and A of relativistic fission fragments (better than one unit in charge and mass), which is usually not possible or strongly hampered in traditional fission studies, where the fission fragments are at low energy of only 1 AMeV.
