A Human-centred Machine Learning system to Analyse and Predict Patient Flow through Hospitals

This PhD, which will develop data visualisation and Machine Learning-based predictions of patient flows through a hospital, will require an empirically grounded socio-technical understanding of the use of the Signal digital whiteboard system within hospitals within Swansea Bay UHB. This system contains a wealth of patient information and interlinks with otherhealthcare systems. Signal has multiple views, which display specific information for different teams and locations of the hospital, providing healthcare practitioners the vital and most relevant information for them at each given opportunity. In this challenging context, the student will need to understand practically how these teams make use of specific data, the type and temporality of the information, and actions taken by practitioners.
