Harvesting renewable energy in a cost-effective way is a crucial step to promote green energy. This project aims to develop a novel way of reducing the costs via a hybrid energy harvest system, which incorporates various devices, such as offshore wind turbines, the wave energy absorbers, and tidal current turbines, on a shared platform. To further reduce the costs, it is also proposed to explore the possibilities of re-purposing the abandoned oil and gas platforms to install the energy devices. This novel hybrid system aims to increase the energy production on limited ocean space, re-use the abandoned oil and gas platforms, and reduce the levelised costs of energy. Existing oil and gas platform data will be obtained from industrial partners for hybrid system design and modelling. The PhD student will be supervised by a team consisting of experts from geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, fluid dynamics and life cycle assessment.&
