This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Transgenic and Gene-Targeting Facility provides many research support services to COBRE investigators and was therefore added as a Core Facility. Services include the generation of transgenic mice by pronuclear injection, gene targeting in embryonic stem cells, generation of chimeric mice by blastocyst microinjection and genotyping by Polymerase Chain Reaction. Because both the equipment and expertise required to perform these services is costly, establishing a Core Facility enables all COBRE investigators access to these techniques and subsequent research models. The Transgenic Facility has also been instrumental in designing experiments for COBRE investigators, and has expanded the range of services offered to investigators via funding from the COBRE.
