A main driver of drug discovery and medicinal chemistry optimization projects is rapid access to quality biochemical activity data of a large number of compounds. Such data facilitates the elucidation of structureactivity relationships and drives decision making in the design-make-test cycle. The Biochemical Assay Core will be in charge of providing the ASAP Center rapid and extensive biochemical assays for the target portfolio. The Core will establish a robust pipeline with the most rigorous assay acceptance criteria. The iterative nature of the activities means that testing of compounds will be performed over an extended time period. Clear protocols and controls are required to enable a high standard of reproducibility. Documentation and quality control will enable the efficient use of resources as compounds and assays are transferred between the interacting groups in the consortium. Access to industry-level automated assays, screening and compound collections provided by the Biochemical Assay Core will be a force multiplier for the ASAP Center in the discovery and development of antiviral drugs.
