This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. Hypotheses: Three-drug antiretroviral (ARV) regimens administered once-daily and twice-daily provide similar ARV benefit in resource-limited settings for HIV-1- infected persons with CD4+ cell counts <300 cells/mm3. A three-drug ARV regimen containing a protease inhibitor (PI), administered once-daily, provides similar ARV benefit in resource-limited settings for HIV-1-infected persons with CD4+ cell counts <300 cell/mm3 as compared with a three-drug ARV regimen administered twice daily that contains an non-nucleosis reverse transcriptase (NNRTI).
