英文摘要
I am doing research on marine algae, particularly diatoms and dinoflagellates which are the major groups of photosynthetic organisms in the ocean. As well as being an important part of the food chain, the diatoms contribute to global climate regulation by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and the dinoflagellates play a similar role and are essential for the survival of coral reefs. In order to understand how algal cells survive changes in light intensity, nutrition and temperature, it is essential to be able to culture them in the laboratory under controlled conditions. This grant application is for a controlled environment chamber to replace one that was bought in 1968 and which is continually breaking down.
