The applicant research is focused on understanding the interaction between turbulence and droplets gasification, as well as between turbulence and flames. Although, it is well known that turbulence is desirable for the performance of either liquid- or gaseous fueled combustion system, its overall role is still not well understood. In order to better understand these physical phenomena, it is essential to acquire full knowledge and control of the underlying turbulence, which is the applicant's approach.A laser Doppler anemometry (LDA), which is ideal for characterizing turbulence and turbulent flows, is currently available in the applicant's research laboratory. This LDA system, in its current configuration, is capable only of measuring simultaneously the flow two-orthogonal velocity components, from which the flow turbulence temporal evolution and shear stresses can then be deduced. In other words, turbulence spatial evolution cannot be acquired by using this LDA in its current version. Therefore, the purpose of this application is to request a piece of equipment to upgrade the existing LDA, and hence enable the measurement of the turbulence spatial correlations from which the turbulence spatial evolution can be determined. This upgrade is essential for strengthening the applicant's research capabilities, and thus enables producing high-quality research. Without this inexpensive equipment in with respect to the total cost of the exiting 2D LDA, the applicant's research would be hindered.
