Recent years have seen the development of fascinating connections between analysis (solutions to differential equations), topology (the study of shape, particularly what in a given shape is preserved when the shape is squished or pulled around without breaking it) and large-scale geometry (the opposite of calculus, the study of geometry at arbitrarily small scales, this is the study of geometry at arbitrarily large scales.) At the center of things is the theory of infinite groups (a group is the collection of all symmetries of some geometric object). My nterests lie in exploring aspects of this three-way connection.
