Interactive visual analysis of multidimensional medical data

The goals of the research are to explore and develop novel software tools, techniques and systems to allow simple, intuitive, efficient, interactive visual exploration, measurement, and analysis of medical data sets, useable by both radiologist and surgeons. The focus will be on tools for 3D and 4D (i.e. time series) medical data, including newer image modalities such as 3D ultrasound. Specifically, tools and techniques will be developed for object extraction and modeling, visual comparison of two objects, object feature emphasis, object manipulation in 3D, object measurement and annotation, tracking changes in objects, object interrelationship analysis, volume image navigation, and sharing and recording of multimedia diagnostic reports and surgical plans. The integration of user collaboration mechanisms is also a major focus, allowing multiple users to view and interact with the image data or with diagnostic reports.
