Dr. Wu and coworkers have been developing "smart" multifunctional materials for biomedical applications such as self-regulated insulin release and cancer imaging. In this project funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Dr. Wu will design new polymeric and polymer-inorganic hybrid materials using renewable natural materials that widely exist in Canadian agriculture-food products and other biocompatible materials to make them suited for future medical and pharmaceutical uses. Dr. Wu's research will enable more precise disease detection and effective treatment, for example, "seek and destroy" cancer cells, and treatment of other diseases by delivering drugs on demand.
