Packing orders to pallets is one of the main problems faced by distributors and warehouse managers. The problem description is straightforward: a set of orders, typically boxes of almost rectangular shape with different size, stability and content-specific attributes, have to be packed to pallets of given dimensions for ease of transportation, storage, and display at stores. Finding the stacking sequence that achieves the best objectives is a daunting task, especially in the presence of a large number of items with varying specifications.
