Graphene oxide (GO) is a recently invented 2D nanoplane fiber. GO is typically produced via the chemicaloxidation and exfoliation of graphite. Some authors have also reported that reinforcing the cement matrix withGO results in the formation of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel in the micropores, thereby enhancing theresultant composite's mechanical properties. Markedly few studies have examined the durability ofGO-cement-based composites. This proposed research program aims to examine the workability, hydrationkinetics, mechanical properties and the transport properties of graphene-cement composites using puregraphene, graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide.Critical examination of the effect of the three types of graphene powders on the properties and performanceof cement based composites will allow for a better understanding of the type of form graphene is most suitablefor application to construction materials. In addition, the evaluation of the material chemistry, evolution of theproperties is warranted to shed light on the corresponding hydration mechanism.
