Vesalius Cardiovascular is a biomedical device venture designing and developing surgical implants and**accessories for mitral valve regurgitation.**For patients with mitral regurgitation for whom mitral valve repair is not possible, mitral valve replacement**becomes necessary. The current gold standard therapy is surgical mitral valve replacement, an open-heart**operation. But because of the risk of heart surgery, many patients**cannot be safely treated, and so industry is working toward percutaneous mitral valve replacement, which**means the valve is replaced through a catheter rather than with open surgery. This technique is called**Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR).**Attempts to implant a transcatheter mitral valve have all been subject to a serious and common complication**related to the technique called Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction (LVOTO), a fatal complication.**Vesalius approach is to replicate what is done surgically to avoid this problem, but percutaneously. At surgery,**the problem is avoided by dividing the anterior leaflet from its attachment beside the aortic outflow valve.**Vesalius solution is a percutaneous tool for the creation of a precise cut in the anterior leaflet of the mitral**valve, through which a transcatheter valve may then be expeditiously implanted over**the same wire that has been used to create the cut. The expanded replacement valve moves**the anterior leaflet away from the aortic outflow valve, and LVOTO is avoided.
