New parenteral formulation for the management of postoperative pain

Recent studies have highlighted the value of COX2 inhibitors as alternatives to opioids for the management of postoperative pain and, in particular, the use of Celecoxib. Due to its very low water solubility Celebrex is only available in tablet, precluding its use during and immediately after surgery when tablet formulations cannot be administered. Altus Formulation is a pharmaceutical company specialized in the development of innovative drug delivery systems. Among their various delivery platforms, the SmartCelle technology enables the parenteral delivery of highly insoluble drugs. A previous study, conducted at our facility highlighted the potential of the technology, demonstrating the analgesic potential of the novel soluble formulation in the plantar incision postoperative pain model. This project aims to pursue the preclinical work surrounding the development and the validation of the novel Celecoxib soluble formulation by determining the effective dose 50 of the micellar formulation and evaluating the synergetic potential of the co-administration of Celecoxib and the CB2 receptor agonist Hu-308.
