While the challenge of feeding a growing global, population with diminishing, productive agricultural lands is a key objective of sustainable living in the 21st Century, the impact of soil compaction due to increasingly robust farm vehicles/tools is going unnoticed within Canada. There is a need to develop a soil compaction software solution that enhances existing efforts of equipment manufacturers like AgriBrink and their network of agricultural technology dealers to empower farmers with compaction information relevant to their own fields. AgriBrink was founded based on an investment in soil compaction research and the subsequent development of patented technology. Their made-in-Canada "Tire Pressure Adjustment" (TPA) system allows farmers to widen their application windows, reduce compaction, protect soil structure, lower fuel consumption, limit time loss caused by excess slippage and reduce yield loss due to compaction. The Conestoga research team will review existing and similar solutions from related areas of agricultural technology, and develop prototype cloud-based solutions that will ultimately allow farmers to track soil compaction conditions on their fields, using data from modern ISOBUS equipped farm vehicles to provide the basis for analysis and visualization of the condition.
