英文摘要
The overall objective of the proposed research is to create new knowledge on the functioning of the Earth system and enable better reconstructions of the past and predictions of the future Earth system. Specifically, the proposed research aims to: 1) improve omic informed biogeochemical-ecology models with new information on the physiology of environmentally relevant microorganisms; 2) constrain and model microbial responses to ocean deoxygenation; and 3) determine the molecular basis and evolutionary history of Fe-dependent anoxygenic photosynthesis. Collectively, these research aims will yield foundational insight key to understanding the role of biology in the Earth system.
