The objective of this proposal is to develop innovative and advanced signal processing algorithms for future mission systems that are capable of better exploiting the novel capabilities and flexibilities provided by next-generation sensors. Specifically, this proposal will focus on three main components with a view towards future mission systems: a) Development of advanced sensor signal processing for next-generation active and passive surveillance sensors including airborne electronically scanned array radars (AESA), cognitive electronic warfare sensors, electro-optical/infrared imaging sensors; b) Data exploitation for fusion of imaging and non-imaging sensors; c) Development of robust machine learning algorithms that is resilient to adversarial attacks and interferences. This project will be executed using bona fide data sources that will guide the development of the algorithms capable of accommodating constraints in implementing mission systems. The innovative approaches developed over the course of this proposal will be implemented and tested on real systems in close collaboration with the industry partner, General Dynamics Mission Systems - Canada (GDMS-C) alongside expertise provided by scientists at Defence R and D Canada (DRDC). GDMS-C is seeking the development of an indigenous leading-edge technological solutions for their future mission systems through collaborative research. This proposal will train 19 highly qualified personnel: 2 Post doctoral fellows, 2 PhD, 6 MASc, and 9 undergraduate students. These HQP will be equipped with knowledge and unique transferable skills that are in high demand in industry and national government laboratories across Canada. This project will help GDMS-C in developing future land-based and airborne mission systems and DRDC will use the technologies to guide the incorporation of such systems for enhancing national security that will be based on state-of-the-art technologies developed over the course of the next three years.
