Market assessment through the L2M program will allow us to develop the tools to deeply understand the proper market segments in the coating industry, target specific usage for our technology and find potential customers. We are currently seeking to understand the coatings market more deeply, benefit from coaching, identify strategic advisors/partners who have experience in this marketplace and further develop go-to-market strategies. Manufactured materials such as wood, metal, plastic, or electronic components often require specific surface treatment to serve as protection for elemental damage, durability, and aesthetic purposes. However, common surface coatings often utilize harsh toxic solvents, and lead to costly processes for maintaining environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance. To help solve these issues, we have developed a water soluble, UV curable resin from renewable polysaccharides. This rapid UV curing resin can provide a protective layer for materials such as wood, metal, plastic, or electronic components. The novelty in our invention is the source of the core material used to synthesize the resin. These materials can be obtained from renewable sources: recycled cardboard or paper, forestry waste by-products, or polysaccharide microbial biomass. With our technology, we are solving the problems of using harsh and harmful solvents which contribute to substantial financial and environmental manufacturing costs. UV curable coatings are used across multiple market segments, as they propose a faster coating alternative with a lower environmental footprint. The market assessment program will allow us to acquire data to pinpoint problems that the coating market space is currently facing, and how our technology can help relieve some of these issues. Outcomes of the market assessment will allow us to take the first steps towards commercialization of our technology by formulating hypotheses for a business model and market entry point, identifying customers and industry stakeholders, planning outreach and drafting interviews.
