There are numerous examples of parasites that alter the behavior of their hosts to increase transmission success [1]. In the case of pathogens that use vectors to move between hosts, this can include manipulation of both the vector and the nonvector host [2, 3]. Examples of these manipulations pop up in an impressive array of disease systems, and many involve modifying the timing or frequency of contact rates to facilitate transmission [4]. In the malaria system, there is mounting evidence that parasites affect both mosquito and human host physiology and behavior to increase the probability of transmission [5, 6]. In both bird and rodent model systems, infected individuals have been found to be more attractive to mosquitoes [7, 8].
