Acquisition of a Nanoflow LC-QTOF Mass Spectrometer System for Protein Expression and Structural Analysis

This award is for the acquisition of a liquid chromatograph-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometer (LC-QTOF-MS) for the Advanced Biomolecular Interaction Resource (ABIR) in the Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry at the university. This instrument will be used for research in proteomics, biomolecular interaction analysis, and LC/MS method development. The investigators represent 9 departments and 3 colleges across the university.The acquisition of this new instrument will strengthen structural biology, proteomics, and mass spectrometry at the university. It will be used in university courses and in a course that introduces local high school students to biochemistry. Faculty participating in educational programs for underrepresented groups, such as the SEED program, will also be using the instrument as part of the student's research and learning experience. Together, these opportunities will provide students with access to advanced high resolution techniques in mass spectroscopy analysis that may inspire them to explore careers in scientific research and teaching.
