This project acquires a light-isotope mass spectrometer and an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) with a laser source. The instruments will be used to investigate climate change and sea water temperature in the north Pacific; analyze changes in trophic structure caused by human harvesting over long times scales; and investigate the relationship between human subsistence harvests and primary productivity. In terms of broader impacts, this award supports the development of new research infrastructure and undergraduate and graduate student research and education.
