AbstractAward: DMS-0813659Principal Investigator: Frederick WilhelmThis award provides partial support for US participation in aWorkshop in Global Riemannian Geometry to be held at theInstituto de Matematicas (Unidad Cuernavaca) Universidad NacionalAutonoma de Mexico (IMATE-UNAM Cuernavaca) in May 2008. Themeeting will consist of two mini-courses taught by DetlefGromoll, Gerard Walschap, and Karsten Grove, plus approximatelyeighteen research talks. The conference will be preceded by anadditional mini-course reviewing basic Riemannian geometry toprepare student participants for the workshop.The conference aims to disseminate knowledge of recent progressin Riemannian geometry among junior participants, to promote theinvolvement of female and minority researchers in the subject, tostrengthen the presence of Riemannian geometry in Mexico, and toencourage collaborations between geometric researchers in Mexico,other countries of Latin America, the United States, Canada, andEurope. The workshop is receiving support from the ClayMathematical Institute, CIMAT, CONACYT, the InternationalMathematics Union, and the IMATE-UNAM, as well as NSF.
