This Research Unit consists of nine German groups and one associated Danish group. For efficient exchange between the German groups, PhD students should visit all participating groups to learn new techniques and methods. In addition, for the exchange with the Danish group mutual visits are required. We also want to hold several meetings during the first funding period. Additional activities include the promotion of equality as well as promoting young researchers. For all of these activities we apply for central funds in this Z project. In addition, the coordinator applies for a secretarial post (50%) to help with the organisation of the Research Unit. Furthermore, all bacterial and archaeal projects will require detailed protein analyses using advanced mass spectrometry, therefore we also apply in this Z project for central funding for the chemicals required for mass spectrometry analyses.
