英文摘要
Historical geography is one of the most important disciplines which allow a reconstruction of the history of the Ancient Near East. There are principally the cuneiform sources which open the access to the numerous attested geographical names. A large number of place and river names has been compiled in a commented collection of data, namely in the series Répertoire Géographique des Textes Cunéiformes (RGTC). Up to now, 14 volumes, which are organized after chronological and regional criteria, were published (1974-2007). From the last and more extensive volume of the series (RGTC 7), which should comprise the geographical names (approx. 3450) of the Neo-Assyrian texts (10th-7th cent. B.C.), appeared up to the present only the first part, which contains the geographical names of the Levant (approx. 450) and was published by the applicant in 2007 (RGTC 7/1). The aim of the present project is the collection, study and publication of the geographical names (approx. 3000) of the remaining regions of the Neo-Assyrian empire. The conception and structure of the work follow that of former RGTC-volumes. The study will be undertaken by geographical regions and is divided into two parts with the corresponding separate publications: the first one will comprise Egypt, the Assyrian heartland and its neighbouring areas (RGTC 7/2) and the second one the eastern regions and Babylonia (RGTC 7/3).
