According to a suggestion of the DFG, this proposal gathers three positively evaluated projects of the former proposal FOR1743 for a DFG-research unit. The intention is to form a new, tighter, coherent program. The common frames of the projects are toric and tropical methods in algebraic geometry. The aim is to develop new methods and to apply them to the study of Mori dream spaces, quotients for algebraic group actions and Fano varieties. All three projects are under the simultaneous supervision of both PIs and the idea is to establish a continuous exchange and cooperation of the PhD students including research stays at the other work group.
